SASH Professional Member Listserv
Information and Instructions
If you have reached this page you are probably subscribed to the SASH-PROFESSIONAL mailing list. The list is sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health and is hosted by David Bissette, Psy.D., a past Board member. The SASH National Office at SASH@SASH.NET handles initial subscription requests, while David Bissette at handles subscription problems and generally watches over the list to make sure that it stays positively oriented and professionally appropriate.
Purpose of ListThe purpose of this list is to encourage dialogue and disseminate information about the diagnosis and treatment of sexual addiction. It is open to current professional members of SASH who are licensed (or certified) medical and mental health professionals who treat sexual addiction and compulsion.
Disclaimer of LiabilitySASH does not review the content of messages posted to this listserve. Views or opinions expressed herein are not necessarily consistent with those of SASH or its mission statement. The reader is encouraged to review the larger body of professional literature and to become as knowledgeable as possible before forming their own opinion as to treatment modalities. SASH accepts no responsibility for the content of any of the material posted to this listserv, or for its consequences. The material is posted for informational purposes in an effort to encourage dialogue and learning about this important and evolving area.
To Send a MessageTo send a message to everyone on the list, address it to: SASH-PROFESSIONAL@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM from the email address you used at registration. (To prevent spam and other unauthorized email the system only recognizes messages from the email address that you listed at registration.) Replies to your email will be sent to everyone on the list. The result is a group discussion about any topic initiated by members.
Two important tips for replying to messages:
Keep Your Tone Upbeat and RespectfulBecause email is so impersonal it can be a confusing means of communication. Humorous comments can seem like biting sarcasm, and anger can flare into words that would never be spoken to someone face to face. It is important for respect and good will to be the tone of the list. A good listserv requires a deliberate effort to "think the best" about other individuals on the list. Offensive behavior on the listserv can result a warning from the host, and in some cases eventual termination of ones subscription.
ConfidentialityMaintaining confidentiality of patient information is critical. This is especially important because the internet generally is not a secure environment. Names and any identifying information should be omitted or changed. In the case of this listserv it is possible that both a therapist and her client may be on the list at the same time if the client is a licensed or certified medical or mental health professional. Please clarify your status relative to this list with your clients in such situations. For a variety of reasons it is probably not a good idea for both therapist and client to be on this listserv at the same time, even if both of them know about it. In any case the client may know other clients the therapist treats, and confidentiality can become very hard to maintain for those clients.
Also, do not forward any post from this list to someone off the list.

Making Changes to Your SubscriptionPlease note that the following emails must be sent from the email account that currently receives your emails from the listserv. Do not send it from a new or different email account. If you do so the listserv will not know who you are if you do and will ignore your email. This is the single biggest source of problems in making changes to your subscription.
